GST Registration Status of Already Registered Assesees Under Existing Central Excise/Service tax/ Vat Laws

Whether all assessees/dealers who are already registered under existing central excise/service tax/ vat laws will have to obtain fresh registration?

No. GSTN shall migrate all such assessees/dealers to the GSTN network and shall issue GSTIN number and password. They will be asked to submit all requisite documents and information required for registration in a prescribed period of time. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of GSTIN number. The service tax assessees having centralized registration will have to apply afresh in the respective states wherever they have their businesses.

  • Sir
We are service provider registered under service tax. Our total service revenue will not exceed threshold limit of Rs.20 lac in the near future. Do we require to migrate to GST? If no, then should we surrender our existing service tax registration once GST come into force. Please reply.

    • First of all, you have to get migrated into GST. After implementation of GST, if your turnover will be less than 20 Lakhs then you can surrender GST registration. Service tax will not be applicable after implementation of GST
